Making fire the old-fashioned way, Wilma Naturprodukter’s Elddon set includes the traditional tools: Flint and Steel, char cloth, jute string and horse’s hoof fungus (Fomes fomentarius). Now you can try making fire the historical way. The supplies come in a waterproof metal jar.
With this primitive fire making set, it’s easy to try how you can make a fire yourself, in the style of old-timers. The flint and steel are hit against each other, as the flint is a harder material than steel, small nuggets come off the steel and catch fire. Your task is to catch the resulting spark in either char cloth, horse’s hoof fungus or jute. Now you should have a slow smoldering initial fire, add a small and easily ignited additional kindling to this – then carefully blow in oxygen.
As soon as you have made the fire, from there you control the initial fire and bring it to actual campfire.
